What is School Choice?
Now, School Choice may have one definition but it has many different meanings depending on who you are. Most people who do not want to support School Choice are the people who only speak from the lense of the job's. But in their personal lives they utilizes the very definition of School Choice. This burns my soul that our lawmakers can make their our decisions on where to send their children. But will make laws to keep others like me, a low-income mother those same pleasures. How many lawmakers or let's say higher ups send their children to the local public school? Now don't get me wrong, I am for all types of schools but what we seem to have in America are more poor public schools than we would like to admit. Of course the poor or failing schools would be in the areas of low-income people. Who are the most people with the title low-income? Minorities.... Us! Which brings me back to my college professors' quota. She said "We as Americans' need people in poverty." Like... Whoa! I could feel my blood starting to boil, why would she say that? She further explained that without people in poverty nobody would flip burgers or be janitors. Before she could finish the word janitors, I hopped up with a face full of tears. Being the only Black person in the class I think I took it harder than the rest of the class and some could have been low-income all their lives. But filled with my ancestors pain I couldn't maintain my emotions. So I yelled "We don't need people in poverty we need people to start to care again, about each other and where we live." "There are people who take pride in the small things in life. " With the people who are supposed to teach us thinking this way, we must push for better education. We must not sit back and allow our children to be pushed through school. We must fight for the right to send our children to the school of our choice by allowing the money to follow the child. We must say enough is enough "When Push has come to Shove" by Dr.Perry. We all know education is Power. Parents we have the power! Here is one way I've been showing my power.
